Financial Accountability

Shayne Williams, executive director of the Lookout Emergency Aid Society.Accountability and financial transparency are part of the Lookout Emergency Aid Society's mandate. We recognize the value of every dollar and donation we receive and understand how it allows us to do much more for people who rely on us.

We have strong financial controls in place, conduct regular scheduled and unscheduled program and financial reviews throughout the year. In addition, an external auditing firm conducts our annual financial audit.

The donations of clothing, furniture and other items we receive are freely given to our clientele and others in need.  Nothing is sold. 

Because we demonstrate a high standard of accountability and transparency, we are trusted by many donors and funders – including BC Housing, Vancouver Coastal Health, Service Canada, Canada Mortgage and Housing, Fraser Health Authority, corporate donors and the public -- to deliver our critical services.  We will continue to ensure that our financial books and performance reviews are completely open and attainable.

Note: Lookout belongs to the Health Community Subsector health accord and our accredited bargaining agent is the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC).  Our unionized employees are members of the BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) and their wages are governed by the Collective Agreement for the Community Health Sector. 
Non-unionized staff, including all our administrative, management and leadership members including the Executive Director, fall under the wage and benefit guidelines overseen by HEABC.
