NEW WESTMINSTER - THE RUSSELL

...Continued from "Transitional"

This is co-located with a small 15-bed shelter which will be housed on the upper floors.

Both the housing and shelter are critically needed in New Westminster and are part of the New Westminster Homelessness Coalition’s Plan to address local needs.

The transitional housing will provide accommodation for approximately two to three years, during which time our experienced and trained staff will assist tenants to rebuild their lives, so that they can transition to more permanent, independent housing. The shelter component would offer accommodation, food and support services and be supervised by a minimum of two staff at all times. Services will include linking shelter residents to the resources that they need to end their homelessness – e.g., health services, housing supports, income assistance and training programs.

This is one more indication of the leadership shown by elected officials in the City of New Westminster and by our provincial government – together we are providing solutions to homelessness!
