...in supportive housing. Our expectation is that residency is up to a period of two years.
However, as the term of residency is based on a tenant’s need and available options, residency may be re-evaluated and ultimately extended based on a continued need for support and assistance.
The Tenancy program was a 100% occupied within 12 days of the building opening. A Volunteer program involves tenants, supported by their Tenant Support Workers, in various departments including Maintenance, Donation Room, Housekeeping and the Kitchen and through this, builds life and employment skills.
A Tenant Advisory Committee (TAC) has been initiated. This committee, consisting of seven tenant volunteers, works under a self-determined mandate to support other Yukon tenants. TAC is extremely proactive; representing tenants through practices of networking and support, and holding the voluntary positions of Tenant Fire Marshall, and Ombudsperson.
TAC has also developed the Community Recycling project, a fund-raising activity and the Good Neighbour Program; a supportive service providing hospital visits to tenants by tenants, as well as soliciting goods and services for tenants. New TAC projects include a Barter Board and a Brochure Depot in the Tenant lounge. Many thanks to the residents for helping furnish and set up Yukon!
The residents have card access to their self-contained apartments directly through the elevator located off the 24 hour staffed lobby/reception area. In addition to using their own kitchens, residents have the option of purchasing meals within the building. Residents have exclusive use of laundries, residential lounge and deck areas located on the 2nd to 4th floors.
