Space LIVINGROOM DROP-IN
Space
The LivingRoom Drop-In Activity Centre was opened in 1993 to provide a welcoming and safe hang-out for the local mentally ill.

Located at 528 Powell Street, this is a large bright and safe space for people to come to.

The Drop In offers a variety of structured and unstructured programs to encourage participation of people, particularly those who are not already involved with the formal mental health system. A particular goal is to teach social and life skills so as to enhance their ability to maintain a stable and as independent as possible living situation and to improve the quality of their lives.

The LivingRoom has seen membership grow each year, showing that there is greater need for community services that assist people with a mental health history.

PROGRAMS

The Drop In provides services such as the following.

  • One main meal, plus one snack, daily
  • Medications administration program (working with medical professionals)
  • Necessities such as food and clothing supplements
  • Social activities which may include bowling, a day trip hiking on Mt. Seymour, bowling, or a game of cards

NEWS

The Drop In annual carwash is underway!

In addition to items for the LivingRoom, last summer’s carwash saw funds going to fund overseas micro enterprise ($25 each), and to the BC Children’s Hospital.

Cruise in for a carwash this summer, and support both local and international charity!

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are an integral part of life at the Drop In.

Individuals assist with activities, whether playing a game of cards or ping pong, or helping with a bowling or hiking day trip.

Groups may be scheduled to provide meal service on the weekends – a much appreciated and necessary service.

Contact Karen at kareny@lookoutsociety.ca for more information about how to participate.
