Cycleback teaches in-demand and up-to-date technical job readiness skills to those who have experienced homelessness, or are at high risk of homelessness,. The Program includes certification in WHMIS and WorkSafe related skills. Tuition is free to those who qualify

Community Involvement

• Mount Pleasant Social Coordinating Group: brought the varied expertise of up to 72 individuals from business, from organizations, and from the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood together as volunteers to dream of, to structure and support through fundraising and volunteerism, a program that fits barriered people in their community: Vocational training of the homeless, as bicycle mechanics.
• Vancouver City Planning: arranged zoning, facilitated funding, and assisted in bringing interested stakeholders to one table.
• Mighty Riders, Bike Repair: Chose curriculum, helped to facilitate classes, chose an instructor, sublet space, and assisted in practical education of students.
• Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House: provide volunteers and marketing support in the community.
• BOB (Building Opportunities with Business): provide applicant screening and intake, directing potential students to appropriate preparatory classes (i.e. literacy) if indicated, or straight to Cycleback.
• Mount Pleasant BIA: provide work experience, mentoring or support, as required.
• Norco, BTAC, Community of Hope: as pros in the bicycle community, contributed advertising and promotional support, standing behind the project at a national level.
• VPD, Collingwood Police Dept: donate broken and abandoned bikes for repair by Cycleback students, and then take the refurbished bikes and donate them to needy kids in local schools.
